Reflection Centre
Most people including students have a tendency to compare themselves with others.
Instead of doing this, start comparing yourself with your older self. It is a reflection of
enviable confidence, good sense of duty, ability to act adventurously, attractive manners and
attitude, social acceptance, and good personal relationships. Then you can accept criticism
with an open mind and give criticism and praise without hurting the feelings of others.
What Is Self-Esteem?
Self-esteem is self-assessment. This is a combination of our position in society, our abilities,
our self-confidence, and our good evaluation of ourselves. Individuals with high self-esteem
will be physically and mentally strong. Self-esteem is how we value and perceive ourselves.
It’s based on our opinions and beliefs about ourselves which can feel difficult to change.
We might also think of this as self-confidence.
Features of High Self-Esteem
People with high self-esteem have a lot of good values. They are full of optimism. Self-
esteemed individuals have compassion for others and an open mind to help them. These
individuals are characterised by a mindset of finding opportunities on their own and
dealing with complex issues. Self-esteemed people are those who follow good personal
relationships and lifestyle. They will have the will, motivation, and confidence to do anything.
Features of Low Self-Esteem
Persons with low self-esteem are selfish and narrow-minded. They always express jealousy
and hatred towards others. They are not ready to take responsibility for themselves, and at
the same time they always blame others. Reluctance to accept criticism and a tendency to
resist it is the character of a person with low self-esteem. They always act suspiciously and
foolishly. Persons with low self-esteem give promises with a good sense that they cannot
be fulfilled. They are always concerned about their position in society.
