The lake-dwellers of Peru also build their houses on huge floating rafts of reeds.

          Houses on the Move

The Red Indians of America, who live in tents, use hide to make their tents. Since

they don’t have a fixed home, they set up their tents wherever they like. Bedouins, a
nomadic tribe of Africa also live in tents. A Bedouin tent is a simple house – a sheet
of cloth held up by poles and pegged to the ground. But the tents of the wandering

people of Mongolia are more sturdy as compared to a Bedouin tents. This is because
they are designed to keep out the wind and snow during the chilly winter.

          The Igloos

Many places in the north like Alaska and
Siberia are very cold. The people who lives

here are known as Eskimos. They live in
houses made of snow. These are called Igloos.

It is very cold there. It is so cold that even the
snow walls do not melt. The Eskimos burn

lamps inside their houses and line the inside
walls with animal skin to keep their houses

          warm.
          Tree House

In some islands of Pacific Ocean, people make their houses high up in the branches of

trees. They climb their houses with the help of the ladders. Attacks by rowdy elements
are very common and people find it unsafe to live on the ground. In their tree houses,

they keep a large pile of stones, which they use on their enemies to protect themselves.
