In forest areas where tigers are commonly found, people make huts raised high above
the ground. They, too, use ladders to climb up to their houses.
Cave House
In Almeria, Southern Spain and in
China, there are families who make
their homes in caves. Since a cave is
cool in summer and warm in winter,
the people who live in them are
comfortable all the year round. A lot
of work has to be done on the caves
before they are fit to live in. Insects
and animals are driven out, and the
inside is thoroughly cleaned. Then
dividing walls are built to make separate rooms with doors and windows. Sometimes
people bring in electricity too. They hang pictures on the walls and put carpets on the
floor to make a real home.
A House on Top of Another
A city is a place where millions of people live and work. In a crowded city, there isn’t
enough land for every family to have its own house at the ground level. So, there are
high-rise buildings which are ten or more storeys high.
