Hundreds of years ago, man lived a wandering life and lived in caves. In the course of
time he learnt to make houses and continuously improved the structures according
to the environment. Even today there are
different types of houses found all over the
world.
Floating Houses
In China, some fishermen live in floating
houses. They make these houses on boats.
A houseboat is about four metres
long. Sometimes two families live in a houseboat. In India,
some people in Kashmir live in houseboats known as
‘Shikaras’. In Amsterdam, Holland, some people make
their homes on houseboats. The rivers and the
harbours of the Far East are also crowded
with houseboats called ‘Sampans’. Most
of them are about twenty feet long, with
a tiny mat covered cabin. In Brazil, many
people build their houses on rafts.
