Social media are interactive technologies that facilitate the creation and sharing of
information, ideas, interests, and other forms of expression through virtual communities

and networks.Since the advent of social media in late 20 century, humans who are social

animals have been inclined to make use of it to enjoy its numerous benefits. Those include

social networking, communication, and most importantly, a new direction to academics.
While there are numerous advantages of social media, its disadvantages flow in the same

vein. Nowadays, in the world of connecting and learning, the impact of social media on
education is becoming a guiding path. Social media and education can complement one

another if used effectively. It is continually developing new educational possibilities for
students and has many positive effects on education. But the same also has some negative

effects.

Aryan was a student of class 6. One day his computer teacher
gave him a project on ‘The Power of Social Media’. With the help

of his family members, he was able to complete his project.

Aryan: Grandma, I need to finish a school project on ‘The Power

of Social Media’. Can you help me by telling me some of its uses?

Grandma: Me? What could I possibly tell you! In our olden days,
we were happy with our newspaper, radio, and television. It gave

us all the news we needed to know. I don’t know anything about

things nowadays. Why don’t you ask your sister?

Aryan went to his sister for help.

Aryan: Hey Amy, grandma says media provides us with news.
