                    Let’s Learn Grammar

                    Direct and Indirect Speech

There are two ways of reporting what someone has said—direct speech or indirect speech
                    (reported speech).

Direct speech gives the exact words of the speaker and appears within quotation marks (“....”).
For example: He, said, “I’ll pay you the money tomorrow.”

Indirect speech reports what a third person said without quoting his exact words. Inverted
commas are not used. The indirect speech is usually used to talk about the past and therefore
                    the tense changes.
