Arjun’s mother came to the gate to see him off.

‘Goodbye, Arjun, do your best,’ she called out.

‘I will try, Mummy,’ answered Arjun and

waving his hand, he ran out of the gate and
up the road.

Arjun was playing in the school cricket team

and was proud of being chosen to play. He
had practised bowling with his father for
weeks now. His father had proudly said that

Arjun was shaping well.

Arjun’s father was nearly as excited as Arjun
over the match. He had promised that if

Arjun’s side won he would buy him a bicycle.

No wonder Arjun was excited!
On his way to the sports ground, Arjun had to pass the little three-cornered patch of

meadow. As he reached it, he saw a very old man leaning heavily on his stick. As Arjun
passed, the old man called out to him.
