Once upon a time, there was an emperor

in China. He was a good ruler. His kingdom
was rich and beautiful. He lived in a grand

palace. There was a huge garden in front of
his palace. The green trees, the colourful

flowers attracted many birds from the nearby

forest. Among those birds was a nightingale
which sang sweet songs.

The emperor was proud of his kingdom,

palace, and garden. Travellers from all over
the world came to see his kingdom. But

what they liked the best was the song of the
nightingale.

The emperor was also very fond of

the nightingale’s song. Whenever the

nightingale went back to the forest and her
song stopped, the emperor would feel sad.
