‘‘Well, all the animals breathe oxygen.
Both air and water have oxygen, we
take it from air, but a fish takes it from
water.’’ Uncle John explained.
‘‘That is wonderful!’’ said Aman.
‘‘Come, we will see them in my
aquarium,’’ said Uncle John.
They all went to Uncle John’s house.
Uncle John had an aquarium. There were
many beautiful fish in it. They were of
different colours—orange, black, blue,
and golden.
‘‘The fish in golden colour is called goldfish,’’ Uncle John told them.
‘‘Look Anu, they are taking water in their mouth and throwing it out,’’ said Aman.
‘‘They are taking oxygen from the water before throwing it out,’’ explained Uncle John.
‘‘Their body is like a boat. They can swim with the help of their fins,’’ he told them.
‘‘Do they sleep?’’ Aman asked. Uncle
John said, ‘‘Yes they do, but they do not
close their eyes. Because they do not
have eyelids.’’
‘‘Can they see?’’ Aman asked him.
‘‘Of course, they can,’’ Uncle John replied.
‘‘They have no ears. Can they hear,
Uncle?’’ Anu asked.
‘‘Yes. Their ears are hidden. We cannot
see them,’’ Uncle John replied.
‘‘Don’t they feel cold, Uncle?’’ Aman
asked.
‘‘No. They do not because the temperature of their bodies changes with the temperature
of water,’’ Uncle told him.
