Let’s Speak
It is the festival of Eid and people are happy eating sweets and sewaiyan. In the kitchen,
the jar of sugar is feeling very proud. Here is an imaginary conversation between the jar of
sugar and a jar of salt. Act it out with a friend.
Sugar : I am the most important thing in the world!
Salt : What do you mean?
Sugar : I am needed to make all the tasty sweet dishes. There can be no festival
without me.
Salt : People need me, too.
Sugar : You are not important. No one has even looked at you today.
Salt : Wait till meal time, then they will all need me.
Sugar : Why will they need you?
Salt : They will need me for everything they cook. Can you imagine eating daal,
vegetables, curries, or salads without me?
Sugar : But children like me better.
Salt : No, children like me better. Can you imagine chips, fries, samosas, or burgers
without salt?
Sugar : Can you imagine ice cream, chocolates, toffees, or laddoos without sugar?
Both together: I think we are both important!
