“And it moves so fast!” said Rina.
“Wait here. I’ll get the tokens,” said Anjali
Maasi.
“What is our train called?”
Rina asked, looking around.
“Metro trains don’t have names,”
Benu explained.
“How will we know which train to get
into?” Tinu asked.
“Each train has a different coloured
line on it,” Anjali Maasi explained as
she returned with the tokens. “We are
taking the Blue Line. Come on!”
The children followed Anjali Maasi to a
small gate.
“Touch your tokens here,” said Benu. “The gate will open for you! Then, keep
your tokens carefully with you.”
Rina touched her token at the gate and it opened.
“Isn’t the platform beautiful?” Benu said with pride.
“Yes,” nodded Rina, “And it’s so clean!”
“Here’s our train!” said Anjali Maasi.
The train stopped at the platform and the sliding doors opened. “Come on!”
Tinu got in excitedly. “Let us quickly take our seats!”
“Wait!” Benu pulled him back. “Let the people coming out get off.”
Finally, the children got into the train and sat down.
“There is nothing to see through the windows,” Rina said sadly. “We’ll be
travelling underground.”
“Imagine!” Tinu said. “All those cars and trucks driving over our heads!”
“We are off, Benu!” Tinu exclaimed.
Benu got up to offer his seat to an elderly lady.
