Children, have you heard of Thomas Edison? He was a great scientist. Imagine what

your life would be like without electric lights, moving pictures, and telephones. You
can thank Edison for all of these. Today let us read an incident from the life of Thomas

Edison.

One day Thomas Edison came back

home from school and gave his mother

a paper. He told her, “My teacher gave

me this and told me to only give it to

my mother.” His mother’s eyes were

tearful
tearful as she read the letter out loud
to her child. “Your son is a geniusgenius. This

school is too small for him and doesn.t

have enough good teachers for training

him. Please teach him yourself.”

Many years after Edison’s mother passed away, he became one of the greatest

inventorsventors of the century. One day he was going through an old cupboard and found
in

a folded letter which was given to him by his teacher for his mother. He opened it.

The message written on the letter said, “Your son is mentally ill. We cannot let him

attend our school anymore. He is expelledexpelled.”

Edison became emotional reading it and then wrote in his diary, “Thomas Alva Edison

was a mentally ill child whose mother turned him into the genius of the century.”

A mother’s love and upbringing can help change the destiny of a child.
