Children, do you always depend on luck? If depending only on luck sometimes, we will

face difficulties. Let us read the story ‘The Foolish Donkey’ to realise the importance
          of hard work.

Once there was a salt merchant

called Birju. He was very honest
in his tradetrade. He had a donkey

who was strong, but too lazy
to do any work. One day, Birju

was called to trade his salt in

another town so he packed the
salt and put it on the back of
          the donkey.

            They were travelling to the
next town. On the way they had

to cross a stream. The donkey
began to feel tired, and suddenly

his foot slipped off the surface, and he fell into the river. When he stood up, he felt
the load was very easy to carry, but he didn’t know that all the salt had dissolveddissolved into

the water, hence the load became less.

This way, he began jumping into the water every time and wasted all the salt. One

day, Birju noticed this and thought of a plan to teach his donkey a lesson. Instead
of salt, he replaced the bag with cotton, and as usual, the donkey jumped into the

river. This time when he stood up, he felt the bag was very heavy to carry as cotton
absorbs more water. After completing the journey, Birju taught the donkey to not
          absorbs
depend on his luck, but his own hard work. From then on, the donkey began to work
          hard for his master.
