Preface

In today’s technology driven world, it is important not only to just know about basics of technology around
us, but also understand how it can be applied and put to use. Thus, it is important for young learners to
master the basics of computer technology and also learn how to implement its applications.
Digital Age is a series of books for classes 1 – 8 prepared to achieve the above-mentioned objectives. The
series adheres to the guidelines and ethos as outlined in NEP 2020, NCF-FS 2022 and NCF-SE 2023.
The highlights of the series are:

• The series is based on Windows 10 operating system and Microsoft Office 2016 suite of applications.
• Books 1 – 2 of the series are aimed at teaching the basics of computers and their uses in different spheres
of life. This includes teaching about the computer system and its parts and include software such as Tux
Typing, Tux Paint, and Paint which incorporate Joyful Learning.
• Books 3 – 5 of the series introduce the concept of operating systems and their working through Windows
10. Application software such as Word 2016, PowerPoint 2016 and Excel 2016 are introduced and their
features explained with relevant hands-on activities. Programming concepts have been explained through
Scratch 3. Internet and its applications are explained in detail. Modern technology has been explained
through software such as Paint 3D.

• Books 6 – 8 of the series focus on advanced software such as Excel 2016, Access 2016 and Photoshop.
Web development concepts have been explained through HTML 5 and CSS. Highlevel programming
language have been explained using Python with detailed examples.

• Traditional computer concepts such has Evolution of Computers, Number Systems and Computer
languages are explained concisely. Contemporary issues such as Computer Malware, Cyber Etiquettes
and Cyber Safety have also been discussed.

• Special emphasis has been placed on concepts and applications of Artificial Intelligence and Coding. The
section has been suitably graded throughout the series to make the understanding easy for the learner.

• Supplements on topics relevant to developments in Information Technology have been incorporated at
relevant places in Books 1 – 8.
Suggestions and ideas for improvement are always welcome. Care will be taken to implement the same in
subsequent editions of the series.
